What is the Best Spray Foam Insulation for My Home? 

There are two types of spray foam insulation: Open-cell insulation and closed-cell insulation. Before choosing the spray foam you want to install in your house, you must know your house’s current condition. Remember that the higher the R-value, the more effective and efficient their insulation properties are. Usually, both are made from the same material, but they have different properties when they set. 

Closed Cell Spray Foam is best if your house or property is not in its best shape or condition. It is a rigid, medium-density insulating material with an R-value of 6.5. This type of spray foam insulation serves as a moisture and air barrier and it can be used in both exterior and internal applications. FEMA has recognized closed-cell spray foam as a flood-resistant material as it rejects large flows of water from entering the home. So, if you’re living in a flood prone area, closed-cell spray foam is definitely a great choice. 

Open-Cell Spray Foam is best if you want to have a quieter and a more peaceful home. It is a less dense spray foam – dense enough to be compressed using your hand, that can be used for interior applications and reduces noise significantly. Unlike closed-cell spray foam insulation, it has an R-value of 3.5 and it can’t be used as structural support. Open-cell spray foam insulation allows moisture to enter, but is not considered as “mold food”.
